Simorgh supercomputer was inaugurated in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and the President of Amirkabir University.
According to the Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, was inaugurated at Amir Kabir University in the presence of Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Ahmad Motamedi, President of AmirKabir University.
Processing power
According to this report, the current processing power of Simorgh supercomputer is more than one petaflop (one million billion floating point operations of 64 bits per second) which starts with 500 teraflops today and after two months (end of the first phase) at full capacity Provides services to users.
Its processing capacity can be increased up to 5 petaflops using the current infrastructure (in the second stage) and up to 10 petaflops in the next phases, which is several thousand times faster and more powerful than desktop computers.
Also, the current processing power of this supercomputer in ultra-fast applications that do not require 64-bit computational accuracy (such as artificial intelligence and deep learning) to the end of the first phase is equal to 30 petaflops (30 million billion 16-bit thin floating point operations per second).
It is noteworthy that this supercomputer in the first phase of operation is about 12 times faster than the strongest supercomputer in the country, which was inaugurated by this team in 2011.
Infrastructure
The supercomputer infrastructure is built in an area of approximately 250 square meters with the ability to expand to 400 square meters. This 42-rack supercomputer (expandable to 84 rack capacity) is based on the third level of the TIA-942 standard and can support a processing power of 5 petaflops (expandable to 10 petaflops in the next phase). Also, a new service center for using supercomputer services with an approximate area of 180 square meters has been established in Amirkabir University of Technology.
Distinctive feature
Simorgh supercomputer computing platform is designed based on virtualization technology and cloud computing. Virtualization increases the efficiency of available resources and flexibility in providing a variety of services, as well as doubling data security. In the processing platform of this supercomputer, the latest hardware and software technologies available in the world have been used, which has made this supercomputer the most up-to-date and powerful supercomputer in the country.
The use of the latest generation of GPUs allows the applications of macro data analysis and artificial intelligence to be implemented at a very high speed and on a reasonable time scale.
Application
Simorgh supercomputer can be used in new applications such as artificial intelligence, big data analysis, Internet of Things, imaging, reconstruction and dynamics, scientific simulation, meteorology, genetic data analysis and other scientific applications that require a lot of processing power.
